The economic recession is a very big problem that affects many countries like the United States , the United Kingdom and also Europe. In Italy people are quite worried about this crisis because there are for example few opportunities to have a good life style and it is also difficult for the new generation to find a job easily. Actually many families live on breadline and it is impossible save money in order to think about a future project. The recession has changed just a bit my life . If before this particular situation I burnt money shopping now I have to be careful when I spend it.

I think the recession is a global issue and every country is waiting for the right condition ''The economy becomes better''. The recession in my country is very critical and affects every body. In Puerto Rico some companies are closing or reducing employment. The recession is more critical for the people who have a family and a mortgage to pay because they can't pay and they risk losing everything.
Personally I,m not affected by the recession because I have rented my house in P.R. and I cover the mortgage with that and I don't spend a lot ob personal things. I 'm very optimistic and I know the economy will change and people will learn about this recession and prepare for the future.

Global Worries
In this period all the West, actually all the countries connected to the United States, are going through a difficult period in terms of economy. This crisis started in the USA and is now spreading throughout Europe especially in the closest country to them, England.
Nowadays everyone in the United Kingdom knows the word " Credit Crunch " that has become almost more widespread than " sorry ". Whenever you go you can hear people talking about this recession and being worried about the future, not only banks' future but their own.
For me the situation is different: I am not English and so I can't feel the crisis in this period; all that I know is what I have heard people talking about that but actually I am not one of those that has to be worried about the future.
In Italy the economic situation has been quite tragic for a few years and so if I have to be worried for my future I have had to be worried for a long time. But I don't know yet what I want to do in my life and although the prospectives are not so wonderful I try to be optimistic and to believe in a new growth. After all the economy is like a circle: the same situations, obviously with some different characteristic according to the historical period, always occur again and again and so, because of this circular process, after a recession there is always a new growth.
So wait people and believe in the future and sooner or later the situation will be better.
Money
If you listen to just about any economic commentary, 2008 was a year of continued economic decrease and the worst recession.
Banks have lost a lot of money, investors are nervous about buying an investment, good value borowing is difficult to find and people don't have any more confidence in banks.
The way of life has become more expensive and the prices are much higher. It's difficult for some families to live like before. We had to cut back and make sacrifices. Many buy less clothes and wait for the sales to go shopping, others don't go to restaurants anymore because of the excessive prices and prefer eat a small meal at home.
All economists and governments are optimistic about the future and reassure people telling them the crisis is finishing soon. But we haven't the slighest idea about the fact of the current crisis and it's difficult to trust them.

The recession began with the subprime ? mortgage crisis and the United States housing market correction in August 2007. This crisis affected the whole world, and everyone has suffered. In fact, this crisis has entraine? the fall of power of the famillies, financial reason of the increase in prices. ??
The causes of the recession is the currency crisis, energy crisis, underconsuption, and overproduction.
The effects of the recession are very important. First of all, a lot of banks closed, because of bankruptcies. Then, there is the credit crunch which followed deflation, foreclosures and in conclusion, there is a lot of unemployment. In the world, nowadays, a lot of people get cold feet about the future of the economy. I am of this opinion because in my country, the president is trying to find a solution to improve the situation but nothing lasts long. My vision is rather pessimistic and I think having this vision at my age is rather sad. What is the future for generations to come? I hope the situation will improve because if the world continues like that, a war will eventually happen.

The Recession is affecting your life
Actually , I'm very worred about the situation because now there are many economic problems for example : People lose their houses because they cannot pay their debts , the prices have risen(food, clothes, public services, oil and so on) , also there is more unemployment because the companies have made a decision to close them and dismiss workers. They don't like to risk money if they don't make profits. On the other hand, the United States and the United Kingdom are helping companies and they are giving more oportunities to save the situation . I think it is a complex situation , we are living in the result of bad choices from the US .
However , Asda contracted 1000 employees in the last three months and their customers are happy because they found the same food with the same prices or less.

Firstly around the world, each country talks about recession and aren't optimistc because this means that the country has had 2 negative successive quarters ,so it's the worst way for any country. When the recession hit France it became very hard for a lot of areas like the Real Estate or borrowing because of the lack of money in banks.
The banks are at a loose end because nobody trust anyone and everybody needs money so to find some solution or rather follow a better way is difficult ,but it will get better than before. For my part I haven't seen anything change ,may be it could be time which could have a big influence on economic activity. So, as the recession is a periodical drop in the economic activity, I hope for a great change but I think it's just a question of time.

The phenomenon of recession influences daily life everywhere in the world.
Since January,16th, there have been many protests led by the unionists in my country. About 66000 people including businessman and workers have protested. And every week the number increases.
Actually, they fight against the expense of life. They think that the price are too high and, they don't have enough money to face daily life. This creates an atmosphere of pressure because there's isn't any solution to be found.
Unfortunately, this creates a gap in the market as shops are closed even the petrol stations.

Recession!
The United Kingdom joined the recession, and the United States, Germany and the whole of the euro area. One exception, France escapes the recession thanks to a tiny rise (+0.1 per cent) in the GDP from the third quarter. But the fourth quarter will be heavily negative.
The figure is astonishing because everyone was expecting a negative figure and preparing for a recession, which is technically two consecutive quarters of negative growth. France is not technically in recession but government policies are beginning to have an impact.
Household comsuption and business investment are two drivers which in the third quarter pushed France past Germany and Britain.
The purchasing power of the French has declined, several banks lost a lot of money like "Caisse d'epargne" for example which lost 1 billion euros in 2008.
The damages are: mistrust on behalf of the French towards their banks. By taking account of the forecasts I am pessimistic but thus the economy with many fluctuations it is not new, the only thing that we must do is wait. The results will be seen that over a long time.

For more than a year, an important crisis has affected the world. This phenomenon began in the United States with the supbrimes. ?
And nowadays, most of the countries are in recession, like The United Kindgdom, Germany, Italy etc...
However, France is not in a recession, its GDP has increased by 0.1% (but maybe the government has cooked the books :p)
Moreover, the crisis has increased the price of products, like food, drink...
Personally, the recession has affected me a lot (my parents more than me), because they invested in the stock market.
Unfortunately, they have lost a lot of money. So this year my brother and I have to be careful about what we buy, and keep out telephone bills low. (my last one was about 100 euros :/)
And I feel very pessimistic for the future, in fact, I smell a rat because the States are trying to answer to the crisis on their own. But the solution must be taken by the whole world!!!!!!
I think that all the governments are exceed ?by what's happening.
Our president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has made full reforms but none have succeed....
Maybe a second revival programme is necessary!
I cross my fingers for the future! Good luck to the rest of the countries :p

The recession
The recession is generally associated with a decline of the GDP(Gross Domestic Product) or a negative real economic growth. A recession occurs when the economic growth is negative for two or more quarters.
In France there wasn't a recession because in the second quarter, the GDP increased by 0.1%!
But other countries like the USA, Germany or the UK...are in crisis.
In France there is not a recession but the economic situation is bad : the prices have increased whereas the wages have not gone up so household consumption has decreased.
I am pessimistic about the future. In fact, I think that the economic situation is not ready to improve: in France people have lost their jobs and the unemployment rate will continue to increase.
The economic situation is difficult for many countries because of the undergone shocks ? and the financial crisis. Governments must take a risk and create measures in order to safeguard the economy.

Down Turn
Today we`re maybe living in the worst global financial crisis that has ever been in the history of the world. It comes from the USA; it`s the effect of some financial bubbles (the first bubble appeared in the 90s with the dotcom titles) and it`s also the evidence of the failure of the credit system.
Concerning my country, Italy is always in crisis, so the global recession is another way for our government to justify its bad way of managing a country.
I saw also the effect of the global down turn in my previous job. We had fewer orders, a pessimistic environment in our company and 30% less turnover. Employees drifted, either to other companies or to other personal projects. My project is to improve my English and be ready to work hard for the reconstruction of a new economy.
In effect, I`m optimistic. The financial crisis is only a changing time, the real economy is always strong. We`re going to live in a new "New Deal", led by the new American President, who is for me a dreamer and a visionary. And when this period ends, our world will be without a financial crisis for the next 60 years.

Global worries

This week we have looked at the subject of money and idioms. I would like you to comment on how you think the recession is affecting your country or your life. Do you have to make any changes? Are you optimisitc or pessimistic about the future? Try and use some of the expressions you have studied this week.

Indeed, their parents worry about them and want the best for them. However, teenagers don't see that. They think that their parents talk too much when they ask them to do their homework and duties. Also, when they give them advice they reject it instead of considering it.
When they grow up they see that they were right.
When they grow up they see that they were right.
Generally, teenagers don't have the same opinions on subjects with their parents. So, they always clash because they are at an age when they attempt to have their own opinions. They have to see the differences between what they see abroad and at home. However, when they are with their friends they forget what their parents taught them. They prefer to do the same things as their friends. One influences the others. And they don't listen to their parents' warnings.
Parents and teenagers
Good morning
I came from Puerto Rico to study English in England and my parents encouraged me to study hard. I want to work hard to improve my English and make my parents satisfied. In general in my country parents won't let teenagers smoke, use drugs, go to the pub and use the computer for a long time. The parents want them to keep their rooms clean, do well at the school and eat heartily.

Parents and Teenagers
Relationships between parents and teenagers are often a tricky problem in the households. We will talk about the whole family.
Parents always do all they can to help their children, to look after them to be proud of their parents, do well at school...They expect them to keep their room tidy, they hope they take their studies seriously and respect each other. There are rules in society but there are also rules in the house. Parents don't allow them to smoke in the house, they tell them not go out late in the evening.
But at a certain age, all these rules can be difficult and sometimes teenagers are angry, irritated and fed-up with their parents, and even a little embarrassed and humiliated by them.
Fortunately, they grow up, and realize that they are their parents, and they become satisfied with their parents, and proud to be their son or daughter.

Throughout the world many families give presents at Christmas .Usually, winter is the holiday season and this is the snow season. Everybody hopes to see the snow and have fun. Nowadays, many families take a lot of pictures to remind themselves of these moments.
Also, I think each parent had their own secrets when they were younger, but the biggest thing which is current are drugs. The drug is the rule which is taken very seriously in every family because, teenagers parents forced them not to take them.
Another funny thing is that every parent expects their own kids to tidy up their room.

Parents and teenagers
As regards family, today, families have changed, before there were traditional families with lots of rules and no freedom, it was more strict but nowadays the situation is going to change to let the modern family get the upper hand! Religion for example, has little place in our lives and is disappearing. Today parents are becoming more lax, and teenagers want their freedom early.
For my part, I am very satisfied with my parents and I may say that I am proud of them. They are always looking after me. They want the best for me, they always encourage me to do well at school because even if we have more freedom they are strict with my studies. They are right, it is always necessary to listen to our parents becauses they were teenagers before us, so they have had experience.

A lot of families have always dreamt of travelling in many countries, because when you travel with your family, you spend a lot of time with them. Then nowadays, many children like to go to the cinema with their friends. Then, teenagers always insist on playing video game after courses, in fact, they think more about play than studying. Because of that, all mothers and fathers encourage theire children to study more.
Parents worry about their children growing up because after high school, they want to get their independence and they go to study in another country or another city.
In conclusion, when they are growing up, teenagers want to travel with their friends and not with their family, so, parents always insist on taking advantage of their children when they are young.

Parents & Teenagers...
Nowadays, in most families there are somes rules between parents and children. It's necessary so that each person knows their place. Without rules, it can be impossible. Try to imagine one family without rules : children don't do the housework and keep their rooms dirty, children don't have to go to school or everybody can eat when they want.
So we can say rules are necessary, for example :
We warn them not to take drugs,
We want them to respect their elders,
We want them to do their homework before watching TV
Or, we ask them not go out late during the week...
In my family there are some rules like these, there are well respected and everything is good!

Parents and Teenagers
When I was young my parents told me some rules and tasks every day. I'll explain to you what my life was like:
I have always been fond of films but my parents would insist on me doing my homework first. I used to be irritated with my parents comments. For example, when I played music loud my parents would get annoyed with me and they would turn off my Cd player. I often dreamt of dancing like Madonna , Michael Jackson and Queen . Sometimes I felt embarrassed by them because they asked me about my private life .
On the other hand , My parents were proud of me because I was a good student . When I attempted to learn English my parents were very happy and my brothers started their English classes as well. However, none of us succeeded in our English classes. I used to study for two hours a day but , now I think it wasn't much time. My parents were worried about my future and now I understand them and their rules because , these were my the best directions of my life.
Today I'm a mother and in my opinion , my rules are neccesary because I want my children to be respectful, ingelligent, confident and I'm optimistic about their future choices . The problems between parents and teenagers have been present for ever, the point is how parents teach their children their knowledge. Also, parents should aim not to control everything.

Parents and teenagers
Parents were teenagers before they became parents. So they expect their children not to make the same mistakes they made. They also want their children to have more opportunities than parents themselves had. On the other hand, teenagers in general, want to enjoy life, to have a good time and they don`t think about the future like their parents.
Parents encourage their children to study a lot and to do some sport. Parents make teenagers conscious of possible dangers, so for example, they warn their sons not to take drugs or not to go out with bad people.
